Juneteenth

Sally Stocker

Wow.

Did you know that Juneteenth is now a federal holiday? Originating in Galveston, Texas, in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day spread across the United States and beyond. Juneteenth (short for June Nineteenth) is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.

According to Juneteenth.com, "Today, Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a time for reflection and rejoicing. It is a time for assessment, self-improvement, and for planning the future."

Recognizing Juneteenth is a way for every human to celebrate the end of a truly horrendous time in our nation's history. Even if you are not Black, African American (black people born in the United States), or any other culture that has been minimized and stigmatized, take this day to reflect, assess, and improve. Doing so will allow us both individually and as a whole to improve our current status. Not taking the way we live for granted, respectfully questioning the rules in place, and genuinely working for the good of all are ways to increase our well-being and the well-being of our families and communities.

At Lorie Stuart Cleaning, we do our best to help you have the time you need to do that critical reflection. Give us a call today, and let us take care of the more mundane aspects of your life, giving you the time you need on your journey of improvement.
