Don't Call Your Dad Soon, Call Him Dad

Father's Day is a holiday where we honor those who are fathers by biology and those who are fathers by familial bond.

Since the Middle Ages, Father's Day has been celebrated (under St. Joseph's Day in March). In the United States, Father's Day was celebrated for the first time in 1910 and has since been traditionally celebrated in the United States on the third Sunday of June. Across the world, the celebrations of fathers are celebrated on various dates.

Father's Day is celebrated with various dad jokes (when does a joke become a dad joke? When it becomes apparent), and usually some type of barbeque, which is only grudgingly cooked by the dad in our household, as that is his domain.

This is a day to honor dads everywhere, young or old, single or partnered, new or seasoned. Being a dad isn't about biology as it is more about the bonds of family. It's a day to do whatever feels right to you and your family.

Some of our dads are stay-at-home dads or the primary breadwinner, and in today's culture, the dads are expected to help with household chores as much as the ladies of the family are. So give your dad a break and present him with a certificate for a house cleaning. He'll more than likely be glad for a little more time at the barbeque.
